The Role of Logic in the Natural Sciences: Perspectives from Category Theory

Call for Papers
TOPICS
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
– the categorification of mathematics and physics;
– the internal logic of physical theories (topoi, the logic of quantum mechanics);
– universal logic and its relevance for the methodology of science;
– ontology (category theory as a network ontology, substantivalism, relationism);
– structuralism in the philosophy of mathematics and physics;
– traditional philosophical issues viewed from the perspective of category theory (the existence of mathematical objects, access to mathematical objects, intuition, the everyday practice(s) of mathematics);
– the foundations of mathematics (category theory and the foundations of mathematics, homotopy type theory, univalent foundations);
– the history of category theory.
IMPORTANT DATES
Abstract submission deadline: 1st October, 2019.
Notification of acceptance: 15th October, 2019.
Conference: 7th-9th November, 2019.
Full paper submission deadline: 31st December, 2019.
PROCEEDINGS
The proceedings of the conference will be published as a special issue of the periodical Philosophical Problems in Science (Zagadnienia Filozoficzne w Nauce).
All papers submitted will be considered in accordance with the strict peer-review procedures of that journal.
Submissions should include the following: the main text prepared in LaTeX; title, abstract (minimum 400 characters, maximum 1,300 characters), and a set of keywords; a bibliography of referenced works placed at the end of the text (assuming that authors refer to other texts), with both quotations and bibliography presented in line with the norms of the PPS style sheet.
In addition, texts submitted by authors who are not native speakers of English should be proofread by a native speaker competent in the field. Furthermore, papers should be consistent with the profile of the journal: i.e. they should contain analyses of philosophical problems in science.
All articles published in Philosophical Problems in Science are made freely and permanently accessible online upon publication, without access or subscription charges, embargo periods, or user registration.
