A book on Topo-Ontology was published

A book titled Part and Whole: Towards Topo-Ontology (in Polish: Część i całość. W stronę topoontologii) by Bartłomiej Skowron was published in December 2021. The book is available in open access. A PDF can be found here. In this book, the Author reviewed the applications of topology in ontology. He called ontology using topological-spatial structures Topological Ontology or Topo-Ontology for short. When philosophical thinking about spatial qualities (Topo-Ontology is based on them) went beyond the limits of ontology, he spoke of Topo-Philosophy. He also presented dozens of ideas from many philosophers (including Thom,…continue reading →

New Publication by Antonio Vassallo in Erkenntnis

We are pleased to announce that Antonio Vassallo has published a new article: The Metaphysics of Decoherence. Erkenntnis, DOI 10.1007/s10670-021-00469-8, 2021. The paper investigates the type of realism that best suits the framework of decoherence taken at face value without postulating a plurality of worlds, or additional hidden variables, or non-unitary dynamical mechanisms. It is argued that this reading of decoherence leads to an extremely radical type of perspectival realism, especially when cosmological decoherence is considered. The article is co-authored by Davide Romano (University of Lisbon).continue reading →

New Publication in Synthese: Does General Relativity Highlight Necessary Connections in Nature?

The paper entitled “Does General Relativity Highlight Necessary Connections in Nature?“, written by Antonio Vassallo, has been published in Synthese (open access). The paper discusses the physical role that the Bianchi identities play in general relativity, and investigates whether these identities—qua part of a physical law—highlight some kind of a posteriori necessity in a Kripkean sense.continue reading →

The book on Contemporary Polish Ontology has been published

The book on Contemporary Polish Ontology has been published

This book is a collection of articles authored by Polish ontologists living and working in the early part of the 21st century. Harking back to the well-known Polish Lvov-Warsaw School, founded by Kazimierz Twardowski, we try to make our ontological considerations as systematically rigorous and clear as possible – i.e. to the greatest extent feasible, but also no more than the subject under consideration itself allows for. The book on Category Theory in Physics, Mathematics, and Philosophy has been published

This book shows that the categorical ontology could serve as a basis for bonding mathematics, physics, and philosophy Category theory is a new formal ontology that shifts the main focus from objects to processes. The book approaches formal ontology in the original sense put forward by the philosopher Edmund Husserl, namely as a science that deals with entities that can be exemplified in all spheres and domains of reality. It is a dynamic, processual, and non-substantial ontology in which all entities can be treated as transformations, and in which objects are merely the sources and aims of these transformations. “Technoscientific Research” has been published!

A book by Roman Z. Morawski entitled Technoscientific Research: Methodological and Ethical Aspects has just been published. Unlike the bulk majority of texts on philosophy of science and research ethics, authored by professional philosophers, this book has been written by a research practitioner for research practitioners. It is distinctive by integrative approach to methodological and ethical issues related to research practice, by emphasising issues related to mathematical modelling and measurement, as well as by attempted application of engineering design methodology to moral decision making. It is also distinctive by a considerable number (over…continue reading →
